RTM STAR Center is a top choice of professional mariners throughout the world for simulation-based training and research. RTM STAR CENTER features a state-of-the-art advanced simulation training system, including a 360 degree-view Full Mission bridge, a 250 degree-view Full Mission bridge, Slow Speed and Medium Speed Diesel engine room simulators, Full Mission Diesel Electric simulator, liquid cargo, radar/ARPA and GMDSS simulators.
RTM STAR Center developed an application of the Mazatlan, Mexico area to simulate the modification of the waterway to bring in larger vessels via dredging. A highly detailed 3D bottom mesh of the sea floor was created from a planned AutoCAD drawing, imported into Creator as a DXF file. The application is also used for day-to-day training. The Mazatlan port pilots and port officials were amazed at the realism and attention to detail in the model.
Photos were taken by RTM STAR Center staff (an Olympus 3.2mp digital camera), and terrain data was obtained from C-map, S57 data. Height lines / contours were taken from nautical charts and put into DXF using Autodesk Raster Design.
